Believe it or not, affordable housing is on its way to Sacramento. California Governor, Gavin Newsome, is putting his January initiative into action and is bringing affordable housing into Sacramento. The goal is to increase housing opportunities for those that make 40%, 60%, or 80% of the area median income.
According to The Sacramento Bee the affordable housing will be a four-story building located near 14th and O Street. They reported that “construction is set to start in December 2020 and finish in December 2022. Retail is planned for the first floor, including possibly a coffee shop or cafe, with three floors of studio apartments above it.”
Many are applauding the new Governor’s quick action on this important housing need. City Councilman Steve Hansen, who represents downtown, said although the project is small, at 32 to 45 units, it is meaningful.
